My no nonsense top tips for better skin, no sugar coating here.
As a skin expert these are my straightforward top tips you can implement from today to help your skin; and no you will see no recommendations for face wipes!
Let’s start with the basics shall we, drink more water (yawn!) I know it’s such a simple thing to do but can make a difference, nearly all of us have dehydrated skin, adding some extra H2O into our day will help.
Changing your pillowcase more frequently, every other day is optimum. (Apologies to the laundry load!)
Ladies – wash those makeup brushes weekly, they harbour all sorts of nasties, even more so if you are suffering any kind of breakout!
Men – those of you who are shaving, once you have finished your shaving routine unless you use a new blade every time the old one is multiplying bacteria by the thousands! You need to clean off the hair and santise the blade. (Being VERY careful to not nick yourself)
Basic cleansing is often overlooked, a simple face wipe (yuck – Yes Ruth I’m talking to you!*) does what it says really, wipes the makeup around the face, it does not cleanse the skin to rid of the many vast products worn by women, and let’s not forget we want our makeup to stay on our face so we need to be cleansing it off in the evening to remove it properly.
If you are cleansing with reusable pads or face cloths you need a clean fresh one every day. (Again that bacteria is multiplying)
My friends call me the SPF police and I am happy to wear that badge, WEAR SPF, yes you! Tinted moisturiser or a mineral makeup powder that contains SPF does. not. count!
You should be using a SPF as an entirely separate product, the makeup products that contain them can not be guaranteed to give the level of protection they state as a simple dusting of mineral powder over your forehead can not be classed as a coverage of 20.
The one I am using right now is Perfectionist Pro SPF 50 by Estée Lauder, (there are lots on the market now and easily available). You need approximately a walnut sized piece to cover your face and ears – my Grandfather had cancer on the top of his ear, so do not forget the ears, or the neck (the back of the neck too, also the back of the hands now I think of it – age spots on the hands we can delay by popping on whatever is left on your fingertips to the back of the hands)
Wow, I feel I need an air horn for SPF. I really can’t stress enough how important it is. Next time let’s discuss cleansing in more detail.
*Ruth is one of my clients who I am always telling to get rid of those wipes!
